Martin.ai Receives Funding from the Ontario Centre of Innovation to Advance AI-Driven Energy Data Validation
Screaming Power receives funding from OCI through the Critical Industrial Technologies (CIT) Development & Commercialization Program.
Toronto, Ontario, Canada, March 02, 2026 — Screaming Power is pleased to announce it has been accepted into the Development and Commercialization program with Ontario’s Critical Industrial Technologies (CIT) initiative powered by the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI). Screaming Power’s investment has been matched by Ontario’s Critical Industrial Technologies (CIT) initiative, powered by the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI), providing essential support as the company expands its AI-enabled energy optimization and data integrity capabilities.
In a growing roster of 329+ CIT projects announced by Minister Fedeli on March 2nd, Ontario is investing in the adoption and commercialization of critical technologies by industry including 5G, AI, blockchain, cybersecurity, quantum, and robotics. With CIT support, Screaming Power Inc. has further developed Martin.ai (Martin), an advanced artificial intelligence platform designed to automate, validate, and optimize utility bill and meter data across Ontario’s energy sector.
“With support from the OCI’s Critical Industrial Technologies initiative, we are accelerating the delivery of Martin.ai to address one of the most persistent barriers in Ontario’s energy ecosystem, accurate and reproducible data. This investment allows us to scale our AI-driven validation engine across multiple utilities, helping manufacturers lower costs, reduce energy waste miscalculations, and improve GHG reporting accuracy. Ontario’s leadership in critical technologies is enabling companies like ours to bring solutions to market faster, delivering real value to industry.”
— Gary Michor, CEO, Screaming Power Inc.
The original Phase 1 prototype was developed collaboratively with subject matter experts and supported by eight months of university-led research to validate key assumptions and methodologies.
“Ontario’s innovation economy is strengthened when industry, government, and innovators work together. Strategic investments through the Critical Industrial Technologies (CIT) initiative accelerate technology adoption, reduce commercialization barriers, and position SMEs to compete globally while delivering impactful solutions across key sectors such as mining.”
— Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation
Martin addresses longstanding challenges with inconsistent and non-standardized utility billing and metering data. By integrating machine learning, AI-based rate modeling, and automated anomaly detection, Martin helps Ontario’s Advanced Manufacturing sector and other energy-intensive industries reduce costs, eliminate data errors that affect downstream analysis, and improve compliance reporting. Martin builds on Screaming Power’s Green Button connector, EZGB, to continuously collect and validate energy data, supporting better decision-making, more accurate billing assessments, and energy management and emissions-reduction planning. The platform integrates multiple energy data streams and compares them against regulatory requirements and tariffs to identify data and billing errors and recommend rate plan concerns.
“As Ontario’s mining sector evolves, the integration of critical technologies is essential to improving productivity, safety, sustainability, and global competitiveness. Through CIT, we are supporting companies as they move from innovation to commercialization, leading to stronger supply chains, the creation of good-paying jobs, and securing Ontario’s position as a global leader in industrial transformation.”
— Raed Kadri, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives, Business Development and Head of OVIN at OCI
This CIT-supported Phase 2 project will advance Martin from a proven TRL-6 prototype to a TRL-8 production-ready platform, validated across 15 Ontario utilities within six months. Martin will be available as a standalone tool or integrated into Screaming Power’s existing platforms (EZGB and Scream Utility), enabling wide interoperability across Ontario’s energy ecosystem.
The CIT Development and Commercialization program is delivered in collaboration with uOttawa-IBM Cyber Range as a CIT Technology Development Site (Dev Site). Through CIT, SMEs can access cutting-edge facilities, enabling them to test and validate their products and services in facilities that mimic real-world environments. Screaming Power, and other SMEs, leverage technical leadership available at the Cyber Range to source validation and feedback in real time, supporting Ontario companies in accelerated development and integration of critical technology products.
Through the CIT initiative, leading Ontario companies — like Screaming Power — are taking charge by tackling widespread challenges with critical technology integrated solutions. Together, Screaming Power and the CIT initiative are building the future of industry in Ontario.
